David Treadwell, 21-year old student |
David Treadwell, a 21-year old student at the University of Oklahoma attended the Red River Rivalry festivities in Dallas, TX this past weekend. Hundreds of students and fans of both teams attend yearly, swamping the West End of Dallas with bacchic fun.
Unlike most bar hopping football fans, Treadwell was one of the few sober attendees, drinking Red Bull energy drinks--minus the vodka.
“Trust me, if I could be drinking I would,” laughed Treadwell.
Treadwell suffered a volleyball injury that caused him to spend a week in Norman Regional Hospital for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in his left arm.
“I’m on Coumadin a blood thinner so I can’t drink for 3-6 months,” said Treadwell, “But I can dip!”
DVT is caused by blood clots that form in veins within the body and remains immobile. Normally it is found in the lower leg area, but in rare occasions it can happen in the upper body area. These clots can be potentially fatal if not diagnosed quickly.
Luckily Treadwell was tipped off early on by waking up the next morning to a swollen, purple arm.

“The doctors were arguing outside my room about what color my arm turned, blue or purple,” laughed Treadwell.
Although Treadwell could not enjoy a beer along with all the other of age students and fans, he was still able to lead “Boomer Sooner” chants for OU at bars and leave Dallas with good memories.

Ana,
ReplyDeleteGreat story! The pictures make me: a) feel like I am there while b) wishing i had been there! Nice nice job. See D2L for some specific suggestions on how to tighten up your writing. Also, do not forget to add your byling on your photo cutline and some information that helps us understand what we are seeing.
Good job! julie
